About Latino/a Studies at Duke

Fall 2007 marks a renewed birth for Latino/a Studies at Duke, which has been gradually establishing its footing for the last ten years.  This reinvigoration involves new faculty leadership under a senior scholar of Latino/a Studies, José David Saldívar, and enhanced support from the University administration for course development, research grants, on-site conferences, fellowships, and faculty hires.  This fall we have also launched our new website and have physically moved to the newly renovated Friedl Building (formerly Science, formerly Art Museum), where we have increased our space to include offices for the Director, Program Coordinator, and a Resource Room. Our goals for this year include creation of an undergraduate certificate and the continuation of significant programming related to Latino/a Studies.   We will also continue our support of faculty and student conference and research awards and co-sponsorship of multiple events dealing with Latino/a Studies topics.
